Decorate the Christmas Tree – November 27

Join the Fun and Joy

We will gather after worship on Sunday, November 27, to decorate the MLLC Sanctuary for the Advent and Christmas Seasons.  This will take place about 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.  We need plenty of volunteer workers of all ages to help with this fun and joyful event.

As always, we gather for worship at 10 a.m. on Sunday.  This is the beginning of Advent, and it is a special and meaningful time to gather with fellow Christians. Come for worship.  Then stay to decorate.

We also offer worship every Saturday at 6 p.m.

One of the joys of our decorating is the use of Chrismons.  As part of our decorating we will hang the Chrismons for the tree.  These were made following patterns suggested and offered by the originators of Chrismons (click this link for more information from the official web site of Chrismons).

Here are some of the Chrismons which were carefully wrapped for storage since last year.

Souper Bowl of Caring 2019 Report

Souper Bowl Cash for Web

Thank You to all who Donated

We had a successful collection of donations for the 2019 Souper Bowl of Caring and Food Drive in February.  The LYO made the goal of $700.00 to give to the A.M.E.N. Food Pantry in La Grange (our county seat).  With the final donations in the past week we were able to meet that goal.  Here is a link to the office Souper Bowl of Caring web site.

Added to that were the in kind donations of food and other needed items for the food pantry.  Approximately 60 items were also collected at MLLC in February and then brought to the food Pantry.  We are very thankful for the wonderful partnership we have in the congregation as we seek to love our neighbors.

Here is the report on the Souper Bowl of Caring official web site:  click link.

Again, thank you for your partnership and support of this annual event at MLLC.

Lutherhill Weekend 2015

Joyful Weekend

We celebrated God’s love for the world and we celebrated our partnership with Lutherhill Ministries on the weekend of August 22-23, 2015.  Our guest speaker from Lutherhill was Matt Kindsvatter.  He serves as the Executive Director of Lutherhill Ministries.  Matt is a familiar face at MLLC, since he has been a guest preacher several times over the years.  Matt was the preacher at both the Saturday evening and Sunday morning services.

MLLC Kids Get in on the Act

Several of the youth from the congregation participated in the service.  The Lutherhill staff members worked with the youth to prepare a skit for use in worship on Sunday.  The skit reminded the congregation to share God’s love with others.  Here is a photo of the MLLC Thespians in action.

Making a Joyful Noise

Lutherhill staff members lead the music on Sunday.  All of the songs were ones which were sung at camp during the summer 2015.  This gave us a taste of the joyful songs which the youth sang while at camp this year.

Blessing of Backpacks and Students

We continued our annual tradition of blessing our students and their backpacks.  This Sunday was the weekend just before most of our students returned to school.  We invite students of all ages to come forward.  From year to year the age range varies depending upon who is present on the day.  Some years the grade level ranges from nursery school to graduate school.

Lutherhill Sunday 2015 Students

We are very thankful for the wonderful ministry we do with Lutherhill Ministries.  About 15 youth from MLLC attended Summer Camp at Lutherhill this year.  We look forward to an even better year in 2016.  Here is a photo of three of our youth working on dining hall clean up at Lutherhill in August 2015.

Lutherhill Weekend August 22 & 23

Lutherhill-LogoWe invite you all to a very special event here at MLLC.  On the weekend of August 22-23 we will welcome Matt Kindsvatter, the executive director of Lutherhill Ministries.  He is familiar to many people in MLLC.  We know him from his previous visits to MLLC, and because many of our youth have attended summer camp at Lutherhill over the years.

Matt will be our preacher at both of our weekend services.  Invite your family and friends for these special times together.  Let’s give Matt and the Lutherhill staff members a great MLLC Carmine Welcome!

Saturday, August 22 at 6 p.m. – Matt will preach at a typical MLLC Saturday evening service.

Sunday, August 23 – three special events in one day

8:30 a.m. – children and youth invited to arrive early to prepare a skit for use in worship.  These young people will meet with Lutherhill staff in the new Mission & Ministry building to prepare a brief skit which will be presented in the 9:00 a.m. worship service.  There is no reservation needed, simply arrive at 8:30 and join in the fun.

9:00 a.m. – worship in the Sanctuary.  Matt and some Lutherhill staff members will lead all of our music this day.  They will teach us and lead us in singing camp style songs.  Matt will also preach at this service.  Our youth will present the skit which they have prepared.  This skit will take the place of the children’s sermon for this day.

10:15 a.m. – Sunday School – Lutherhill staff will lead a children’s Sunday School lesson in the Mission & Ministry building.  We have enjoyed their leadership in the past as they have come to do this over the years.

This summer we had a large group of MLLC youth attend camp at Lutherhill.  This special weekend is a way to celebrate the great summer experience we had at Lutherhill.

Here is a photo of Matt Kindsvatter and Pastor David Tinker after a recent meeting to plan for this special Sunday.

Christmas Eve Was Wonderful

Christmas Eve 2014 Candles

A large crowd gathered to sing, pray, hear God’s Word, and to enjoy the annual Lutheran Youth Organization (LYO) Christmas Play.  It was truly a beautiful night as these dedicated young people presented the message of Christmas for all to hear.

Remember, we gather for Holy Communion on Christmas Morning at 10:00 a.m.  We invite you to gather with God’s people on this very holy festival day.

Candle Lighting and the Gospel of the Incarnation

As part of the MLLC Tradition we have the annual Candlelight Service and reading of the Gospel of the Incarnation from John, chapter 1, verses 1-14.

Here is the text of that important message about Jesus, who he is, and what he has done for the world.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  2He was in the beginning with God.  3All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being  4in him was life, and the life was the light of all people.  5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.

6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.  7He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him.  8He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light.  9The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world.

10He was in the world, and the world came into being through him; yet the world did not know him.  11He came to what

was his own, and his own people did not accept him.  12But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God,  13who were born, not of blood or of the will of the flesh or of the will of man, but of God.

14And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.

The youth presented their play:  “Christmas Eve Live”

Here are some photos of the youth, and an adult or two, who were in the play.  Thank you to Mia Williams for directing the play this year. Thank you to all the youth and adults who made this wonderful production happen.

Children’s Christmas Program Getting Ready

Christmas Program 2014 Group song 1

The 2014 Sunday School Children’s Christmas Program is currently in rehearsals.  The children and adults are working faithfully to prepare for this annual presentation.  This is always a fantastic program and we are thankful for the leaders, musicians and cast who make it happen each year.  All are invited to attend worship on December 14 as these young people present the good news that Jesus Christ is born.

Worship at 9:00 a.m. – the program will be the Word of God on this day, replacing the readings.  Holy Communion will be offered as usual.

~10:15 a.m. – Jesus’ Birthday and Christmas Brunch pot luck.  All are invited to this new tradition of MLLC.  We will gather in the Fellowship Hall for this special event.  Please know that this is for all ages and it was very well attended last year.
