William Mueller and confirmed on April 2, 1937 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine by Rev. Henry Brunotte.  Her confirmation verse was 1 John 3:1, “Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.”  She was raised on the Stork farm in Ledbetter, Texas and received her education in the little one room Prospect School.  Bernice began working at the telephone company in Carmine before going to work at the IGA Store in Giddings.  After her true love returned home from serving for two years in the Philippines during World War II, Bernice was united in marriage to Elwood Adolph Mueller on November 22, 1947 at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church Parsonage in Giddings by Rev. S.T. Schroeder.  After their marriage, they went into the ranching business raising chickens, hogs, and cattle throughout the next 51 years until Elwood’s death on March 9, 1999.  Following his death, Bernice continued the business with her two sons.  She was an active member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine where she had taught Sunday school and was a longtime member of the Ladies Aid.  She enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially loved playing dominoes and 42 with her friends in the Carmine 42 Club.
